Classic clash between Rich Franklin-Wanderlei Silva named Fight of the Night

Few fighters have weathered the storm UFC icon Rich Franklin encountered last night in Brazil and exited the Octagon with a hand raised. However, “Ace” did just that, coming back from the cusp of being out cold to do damage throughout the remaining rounds and earning a decision victory over fellow legend Wanderlei Silva in the process.

Their main event meeting at UFC 147 was rightfully named Fight of the Night after the card’s conclusion, scoring each an extra $65,000 on top of his regularly contracted rate.

A Round-By-Round Look at Franklin vs. Silva

Submission of the Night went to Rodrigo Damm, though by default to an extent as he was the only competitor on last night’s lineup to tap his opponent out. He too notched $65,000 for the distinction.

Finally, Marcos Vinicius kept his streak of finishing foes intact by putting away Wagner Campos in the final frame of a fight he was likely losing in the judges’ eyes beforehand. All twenty of Vinicius’ victories have involved some form of stoppage. Similarly to his bonus-winning peers the young Brazilian also brought home an additional $65,000 for turning in Knockout of the Night.

Hockey Fight of the Day: Jeff Hoggan vs. Patrice Brisebois

Thanks to the modern marvels of technology fans are finally getting a chance to re-live some of the fascinating hockey fights from yesteryear. A good example of an entertaining effort from a pair of NHL players many may not have ever seen, or at least forgotten about over the past six years, is this 2006 meeting between the St. Louis Blues’ Jeff Hoggan and Colorado Avalanche’s Patrice Brisebois.

Ryan Couture's love affair with MMA continues ahead of next Strikeforce fight

While everyone might assume Ryan Couture took up MMA because of his famous father, the son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture recently admitted the adrenaline rush of his first time in the ring was the biggest factor in fighting for a living.

"The first time I got in the ring as amateur," Couture told MMAjunkie.com Radio this week, about when he really knew MMA was his calling.

"But I just didn't know if I would have the stomach for actually getting in the ring and going to blows with someone. The first time I had that experience and that rush, I was hooked."

n-Bag dropping off the Clay Guida Bandwagon, whos with me?

I used to respect his cardio and movement, but JESUS! Get to the part where you DO SOMETHING!!!! It was like Sopranos season 2 out there ( and in Jersey I might add) for crying out loud. The GAMEPLAN gameplay has to stop.

I want all of these fighters to watch a reel of fighters , like FEDOR getting out there to LAY IT ALL OUT. Dan Severn, Fatass Tank Abbot, they went in to fight. UFC has become a point factory for cowardly point beancounting ninnies.

"PRO fighter" wow, that term used to have a much different meaning in my town.

UFC on FX 4 "Maynard vs. Guida" draws average of 1.3 million viewers

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Friday's UFC on FX 4 event saw a bit of an increase in viewership from the previous two events on the network this month. According to TVBytheNumbers.com, Friday's two-hour broadcast on FX brought in a .7 rating in adults 18-49, and drew an average of just over 1.3 million viewers.

That number is up from the 1.1 million average viewers for UFC on FX 3 on June 8, and the one million viewers for The Ultimate Fighter Finale on June 1. Friday's event, which tied for fifth out of ten fight broadcasts on the network in 2012, was headlined by the lightweight bout between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.

Urijah Faber teaches CNN’s Soledad O’Brien about rear naked chokes (VIDEO)

UFC bantamweight contender Urijah Faber stopped by the set of CNN's "The Starting Point" to talk about his new book, "The Laws of the Ring", and ended up tapping out to host Soledad O'Brien. The lessons starts at 1:20 with Faber admitting there are MMA moves that could kill, including a rear naked choke.

Faber is a busy man these days. Michael Chiesa, his fighter the latest season of "The Ultimate Fighter," won the show on Friday night, earning both Chiesa and Faber a Harley-Davidson. He is preparing for a chance at the bantamweight interim belt at UFC 148 and publicizing a book.

If you skipped straight to choke, it's worth your time to go back and watch the first part of the interview. Faber handles the questions well and lets O'Brien choke him out, being careful to mention the honor in tapping out.
