Frankie Edgar’s friends and family talk about his less-than illustrious MMA debut

In less than two weeks UFC lightweight Frankie Edgar will headline a major PPV event in a title-fight as he’s done a number of times before. However, years ago Edgar was new to the MMA scene and simply trying to establish his presence as a professional.

Edgar’s friends and family discussed his inconspicuous debut in a series of videos documenting the former champion’s climb to the top (and attempt to win the belt back from Benson Henderson at UFC 150). According to those closest to Edgar, the venue had no medical staff on site, ropes like a cheap boxing gym, and competitors fighting in blue jeans.

“The Answer” went on to win the fight convincingly and was hooked from that point on.

Edgar Says the Belt Still Belongs to Him

“I knew I wanted to fight. My father, (my family) were all definitely wary of it. They were like, ‘What are you doing? You just wrestled, you just graduated college. Why don’t you just worry about starting your career?’ And I was like, ‘This is what I want to do,’” said Edgar in the clip.
