The ripple effect of today’s announcement that UFC 151 has been cancelled continues with the rescheduling of the co-main event. Jake Ellenberger and Jay Hieron will now hold their welterweight clash at UFC on FX 5 on October 5th.
UFC on FX 5, which takes place in Minneapolis, features a heavyweight showdown between Travis Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
Ellenberger (27-6) will be looking to put a loss to Martin Kampmann at The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale behind him when he welcomes Hieron back to the UFC. The loss snapped a six fight winning streak for Ellenberger which saw him notch wins over Diego Sanchez and Jake Shields.
Hieron (23-5), who is an injury replacement for Josh Koscheck, fought twice in the UFC back in 2004-2005. In 2011, Hieron won the Bellator season 4 welterweight tournament but he ultimately fell short in a title shot against champion Ben Askren. Heiron has since got back in the win column with a second round submission victory over Romario Manoel da Silva at Legacy Fighting Championship 12.
