The news broke Tuesday evening that an injury had forced Josh Koscheck out of his scheduled co-main event fight against Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151. It didn’t take UFC match-makers to fill that void as they announced today that Jay Hieron will make his return to the octagon.
The veteran Hieron (23-5) fought twice in the UFC back in 2004-2005. He has won eleven of his past twelve bouts including capturing the Bellator season 4 welterweight tournament in 2011. During the tournament run Hieron defeated Anthony Lapsley, Brent Weedman and Rick Hawn. Hieron most recently competed at Legacy Fighting Championship 12 in July where he defeated Romario Manoel da Silva by second round submission.
UFC 151 takes place on September 1st from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The fight card is headlined by UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his title against Dan Henderson.
