After racking up wins in a number of organizations welterweight Jay Hieron has finally gotten the opportunity he’s been waiting seven years for, as the seasoned New Yorker has apparently come to terms with the UFC to re-join the organization and face Jake Ellenberger at UFC 151. Ellenberger was originally scheduled to take on Josh Koscheck who was recently removed from the bout due to a back injury.
Ellenberger-Hieron will likely serve as the September 1 show’s co-headliner with a title-fight between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and top contender Dan Henderson making up the main event.
MMAJunkie was first to report his signing with other outlets having since confirmed the move.
Hieron, who is 11-1 in his last twelve tilts, holds an overall record of 23-5 including past wins over Jesse Taylor, Joe Riggs, Jason High, and even Ellenberger (who he outpointed in a 2006 meeting). Thirteen of his wins have involved some form of stoppage.

The 27-6 Ellenberger is no slouch himself, owning past victories against the likes of Diego Sanchez, Mike Pyle, and Jake Shields.
