Alpha Male, huh?
Chad Mendes, one time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight number one contender, is currently wanted by police in his hometown of Hanford, California, after he apparently sucker punched a man in a bar room brawl before running from authorities and actually getting away.
Seriously.
I'll let the Hanford Sentinel explain:
Mendes, 27, allegedly sucker punched a patron in the face and took off running out the back door. Officials say they have not been able to locate him. The incident started around 1:18 a.m. A deputy on patrol in east Hanford drove past the business and witnessed two people fighting in the parking lot. He got out and intervened, causing one man to turn on him, according to the Kings County Sheriff's Office.
...
That's when authorities recognized Mendes. He appeared to be intoxicated and began cursing at the deputies and officers, authorities said. They asked him to leave. Instead, he went back inside and struck one man who "never even saw him coming," Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said. Deputies chased Mendes along the railroad tracks behind the Lacey Inn Bar, but soon lost him in south Hanford. The area native has not been seen since.
It turns out, this could be far more serious than it would appear on the surface, as if to say sucker punching a dude in front of the police and then running from them isn't serious enough. As Sherrif Putnam points out, because of Mendes' extensive mixed martial arts (MMA) training, he could feasibly be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
That is, when they actually get their hands on him. Mendes has until Monday to turn himself in or a warrant for his arrest will be issued and it will only get worse for him.
This all comes less than one month after "Money" scored a beautiful first round technical knockout victory over Cody McKenzie at UFC 148 in Las Vegas, Nevada, a win that put him back in title contention in the 145-pound division. Me thinks this whole running from the po-po thing will put an end to all that talk.
