Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira: “I want to fight Top 10 guys.”

Legitimate legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira may be 36 years old and have a history of being injured but fans can rest assured “Minotauro” isn’t ready to hang up his gloves just yet. The UFC heavyweight confirmed his desire to continue fighting last night at the post-event press conference for UFC 153 after tapping out Dave Herman earlier in the evening to earn his 21st career submission victory.

“I can still fight. I feel amazing. I’m still hungry. I still feel like I can go and fight and throw some good things. Physically, I feel good,” said Nogueira, laughing off the notion of retirement no matter how many media members might call for it.

Nogueira also made it clear he’s looking for legitimate opposition instead of easy wins to pad his stats.

“I want to fight Top 10 guys,” stated Nogueira, though he’s earning a title-shot along the way is not on his radar at the moment. “I can’t ask for the belt, because my buddy, Junior dos Santos, is the champion. He’s kind of my brother, and I’m going to be helping him for the next two weeks for his fight against Cain Velasquez. But I want to fight against the best guys.”

Nogueira Takes Pride in Ability to Overcome Adversity

The beloved Brazilian, who holds an overall record of 34-7-1, is 5-3 since signing with the UFC including success against the likes of Brendan Schaub, Tim Sylvia, and Randy Couture. He also has come out with his hand raised over other notable fighters such as Dan Henderson, Mirko Filipovic, and Josh Barnett.
