Lightweight Michael Chiesa impressed viewers on TUF 15 with the heart and technique he displayed en route to his season-winning performance against Al Iaquinta at the finale. However, rather than ride the wave of love for the bearded brawler, the UFC has instead decided to throw him in deep waters to see how well he can swim.
Chiesa was originally scheduled to face Rafaello Oliveira at UFC on FOX 5, though “Tractor” has since been removed from the rumble for health-related reasons, allowing Marcus LeVesseur to slide into the vacancy created by his withdrawal.
The MMA Report was first to report the change.
The 22-6 LeVesseur has split his appearances inside the Octagon, suffering a submission to Cody McKenzie in his debut before scoring a lackluster decision against Carlo Prater in an October outing. He has finished seventeen of the foes he’s felled with a nice balance between TKOs/tap-outs.
Chiesa is unbeaten eight fights into his career. Six of his wins have come as the result of submission.
UFC on FOX 5 is scheduled for December 8, featuring a title-fight between Benson Henderson-Nate Diaz as well as main card clashes between Mike Swick-Matt Brown, Alexander Gustafsson-Mauricio Rua, and B.J. Penn-Rory MacDonald.
