Castillo and Buchholz earned the opportunity to fight for the title after picking up wins at the Showdown Fights 8 in August. Castillo (16-4) recorded a first round knockout over Gordon Bell while Buchholz (13-7) submitted Clay Collard in the third round.
Castillo has won his last three fights and is unbeaten in his past seven outings. He has recorded 14 of his carer wins by stoppage with six knockouts and eight submissions. Buchholz, a UFC veteran, has won four of his last five fights. He also finishes fights with 11 of his 13 wins coming by stoppage.
Showdown Fights 9 takes place from the UCCU Center at Utah Valley University in Orem Utah.
