The growth of all-female MMA promotion Invicta FC continued over the weekend when the organization put on its third show and crowned its first champion. Invicta FC 3 was headlined by an atomweight title-bout between Jessica Penne and Naho Sugiyama where the former made history by laying claim to the divisional strap.
Penne’s win came when she locked up her Japanese adversary in a Triangle Choke, drawing the tap at the midway point of the second round. The triumph improved the 29-year old’s overall record to 10-1 and was her third straight finish.
Also in action at the show, bantamweight Shayna Baszler made good on her reputation for ground-based dominance with a Rear-Naked Choke stoppage of Sarah D’Alelio in their co-headlining clash. The 15-7 Baszler has earned fourteen of her victories by way of submission.
