Anderson Silva admits Georges St-Pierre would be easier to beat than Jon Jones

With another impressive win at 205 pounds under his belt, pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva made it clear he could compete in the division at a high level even though the bulk of his success has come at middleweight. Silva’s Saturday night stoppage of Stephan Bonnar with strikes at UFC 153 fired fans up about the possibility of a super-fight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and even inspired UFC President Dana White to get involved in terms of booking the bout.

Unfortunately, both Silva and Jones have said they aren’t interested in facing the other out of respect and, in the Brazilian’s case, the effect a potential win would have on the title-hopes of teammates like Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Lyoto Machida. Now, interestingly enough, Silva has also admitted he’d prefer to face Georges St-Pierre based on it being an easier fight.

“I think it’d be a great challenge for me,” said Silva at the post-fight press conference of a bout with the welterweight ace. “I prefer him over Jon Jones. He’s smaller. It’ll be a little bit easier. I’ll be hit less.”

White followed up on Silva’s statement, assuring the MMA community he would do whatever was in his power to convince the legendary competitor to change his mind.

I know this: the Georges St-Pierre fight is a big fight. I think the Jon Jones fight is a big fight (too),” explained White at the presser. “I know my man says, ‘No, no, no,’ but the amount of money that would be offered for that fight, I guarantee you I will make Anderson Silva say, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’”

“The Spider” Shrugs Off Notion of Fighting Jones

Silva picked up his sixteenth straight win in the Octagon on Saturday night with his beatdown of Bonnar. Comparably, St-Pierre is scheduled to make his return to the ring this November after more than a year off due to injuries but had emerged triumphant in nine straight prior to the break, while Jones is 17-1 and arguably undefeated in the sense his lone loss came as the result of an unnecessary disqualification.
