Bellator severs ties with former champion Zach Makovsky

In a move surprising a ton of fans, as well as the affected athlete, Bellator has decided to release former bantamweight champion Zach Makovsky. Makovsky confirmed his cut on Twitter, writing, “Honestly shocked but thank you for the opportunity,” in a message directed at Bellator and CEO Bjorn Rebney.

The company’s decision came within weeks of “Fun Size” falling by Split Decision in his only bout since dropping the title to Eduardo Dantas earlier this year. The two losses mark the only stumbles for Makovsky since August 2009 and came after an eight-fight winning streak.

Makovsky shouldn’t have a hard time latching on to a new promotional home considering his past success in the ring. He holds an overall record of 14-4 with seven stoppages and victories of the likes of Chad Robichaux and Ed West.
