Immediately following his dominate win over BJ Penn at UFC on Fox 5, Rory MacDonald turned his attention to avenging the only loss of his career. In the post fight interview MacDonald called out Carlos Condit while also targeting the rematch for the UFC’s next show in Montreal.
It looks like MacDonald will get what he had asked for. It was reported on Tuesday’s episode of UFC Tonight that Condit offered his response to the challenge by saying “I’m in”. As a guest on MMAJunkie.com Radio MacDonald stated that the fight with Condit was announced by UFC President Dana White and it would be held in Montreal. The event is tentative scheduled as UFC 158 in March.
MacDonald (14-1) and Condit (28-6) previously fought at UFC 115 in June 2010. MacDonald would suffer a technical knockout loss to Condit in which the bout was stopped with just seven seconds remaining in the final third round. Prior to the stoppage MacDonald had controlled the action against Condit for the first two rounds.
Condit, the former interim welterweight champion, is coming a loss to champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154. The loss snapped a fight five winning streak for Condit was also the WEC welterweight champion. During his UFC tenure Condit has recorded wins over Nick Diaz, Dan Hardy, Dong Hyun Kim and Jake Ellenberger.
