Matt Mitrione, Josh Neer, and others added to UFC on FX 5 lineup

The UFC’s October 5 event in Minneapolis has grown exponentially in the past 24 hours with the addition of multiple match-ups including Matt Mitrione-Rob Broughton, Josh Neer-Justin Edwards, Bart Palaszewski-Diego Nunes, Darren Uyenoyama-Louis Gaudinot, and Carlos Prater-Marcus LeVesseur.

The card, UFC on FX 5, is headlined by a heavyweight tilt between Antonio Silva and Travis Browne. All bouts have been confirmed by UFC officials.

Mitrione and Broughton were originally pegged for a meeting this weekend at UFC on FOX 4 before injuries delayed their dance. Mitrione is 5-1 thus far in his career since hanging up his cleats as a former NFL player, while Broughton is 15-7-1 and will likely be fighting for his job after dropping back-to-back bouts in his previous two appearances.

The 33-11-1 Neer is also coming off defeat, though prior to the stumble he’d won six in a row including two inside the Octagon. Edwards, who comes out of Jorge Gurgel’s camp in Ohio, is 1-2 since an abbreviated stint on the Ultimate Fighter.

Palaszewski holds an overall record of 36-15 in comparison to Nunes’ 17-3. Both are in need of a victory based on decision defeats the last time out.

Uyenoyama-Gaudinot are two of the sport’s top flyweights, while Prater-LeVesseur are above-average on the mat and should make for an interesting clash considering their like-minded approaches to competition.
