Story (14-5), who excitedly tweeted “I’m fighting Demian Maia in Rio!”, will look to build on his most recent octagon victory over Brock Jardine to regain his contender’s standing in the 170 lb. division. Prior to his most recent win, the once surging welterweight saw a fall from grace as he dropped consecutive bouts against Martin Kampmann and Charlie Brenneman.
The bout will mark Maia’s (16-4) second trek down to 170 lb., as the Brazilian recently debuted at welterweight by stopping Dong Hyun Kim due to injury at UFC 148. The submission ace made the move to the lighter division after a 1-2 run at middleweight which saw the former title challenger drop decisions to Chris Weidman and Mark Munoz.
