Is Muhammed Lawal still "King" of the non-ZUFFA light heavyweights? We'll find out next month in Love County when the former Strikeforce champ makes his Bellator debut opposite Przemyslaw Mysiala.
It's been a rough year for Muhammed Lawal.
"King Mo" tested positive for steroids following a knockout win over Lorenz Larkin last January, then contracted such a serious staph infection that he didn't care if he died, was fined $39,000 and suspended for nine months from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition for "taking his punishment like a man" -- only to be subsequently released by ZUFFA.
But hey, all's well that ends well, right?
Lawal (8-1) was quickly scooped up by the gang at Spike TV, where he was given prominent roles in both Bellator MMA and TNA IMPACT! Wrestling, splitting his light heavyweight duties between professional fighting and professional wrestling.
It's good to be "King."
Lawal will enter the promotion's 205-pound tournament against International combat sports veteran Przemyslaw Mysiala at Bellator 86, which emanates from the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla., on Jan. 24, 2013, live on Spike TV.
Gotta start somewhere, I suppose.
Mysiala (16-7) is coming off a loss to Jason Jones at the BAMMA 9: "Watson vs. Marshman" event last March in the UK, lasting just over three minutes into the opening frame prior to having the cageside physician bring a halt to the action. To his credit, "Misiek" has 15 finishes in 16 wins.
Can he solve the riddle of Lawal's wrestling?
