A recent injury to UFC light heavyweight Forrest Griffin has not only resulted in his removal from a scheduled scrap at UFC 155 but, apparently, caused opponent Phil Davis’ withdrawal as well. The two talented 205ers were set to serve as the December 29 event’s co-headlining clash before Griffin went down with a torn MCL and strained ACL.
While it was initially thought the UFC would find a replacement for Griffin, organization head Dana White has confirmed Davis would be shifted to a different show based on the amount of time involved and a lack of a suitable substitute.
White’s comments came to media during a pre-event press conference for UFC on FOX 5 and MMAWeekly was on hand to document them.
The 10-1 Davis is coming off a submission win in October over Brazilian Wagner Prado. He has also exited the Octagon with his hand raised against the likes of Brian Stann, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Alexander Gustafsson.
