UFC 156 Update: Benavidez vs. McCall Targeted for Super Bowl Weekend

An already stacked UFC 156 fight card just got a little bit more crowded with the addition of a top ten flyweight clash between Joe Benavidez and Ian McCall. No word yet on where the bout will land on the billing. MMAWeekly first reported the pairing earlier this evening.

Both Ian McCall and Joe Benavidez are looking to bounce back from their respective losses to UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC on FX 3 and UFC 154.

McCall was originally supposed to face John Moraga at UFC on Fox 4 but was injured prior to the bout. “Uncle Creepy” would then have to serve jail time due to unresolved legal requirements relating to an old arrest. With that behind him, the two former WEC standouts should put on a memorable show when they meet in February.

UFC 156 will take place February 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will be headlined by a UFC featherweight championship tilt between the champ, Jose Aldo, and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

Fight Card

  • UFC Featherweight Championship Fight: Jose Aldo (c) vs. Frankie Edgar
  • Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva
  • Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia
  • Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
  • Erick Silva vs. Jay Hieron
  • Ian McCall vs. Joe Benavidez
