UFC President Dana White announced that Brad Pickett, Matt Wiman, Stefan Struve, and Stipe Miocic earned $40,000 bonuses for their performances Saturday night. These four fighters are no strangers to bonuses with Matt Wiman and Stefan Struve picked up their fifth UFC bonuses, Pickett his third UFC bonus in as many fights (on top of two WEC awards), and Stipe Miocic picked up his second bonus in four UFC fights.
Brad Pickett certainly lived up to his moniker of “One Punch” as he landed a devastating uppercut (pictured) that removed Yves Jabouin from consciousness. While Pickett struggled with the speed of Jabouin early and often in their fight, the one uppercut was all he needed to drop the Canadian fighter. The impressive knockout netted Pickett “Knockout of the Night” and a “Knockout of the Year” candidate.
Matt Wiman stunned the Nottingham crowd with a submission victory over submission specialist Paul Sass. Wiman overcame some early submission danger of his own to pull off the “Submission of the Night” with an armbar finish of Sass.
The main event lived up to its billing as Stefan Struve and Stipe Miocic earned “Fight of the Night” for their back and forth slugfest. Miocic was able to control the first round by working inside Struve’s reach and battering the Dutch fighter. The second round saw Struve finally establish a jab and it paid major dividends as he was able to go to work on Miocic. Miocic would not go quietly however, as he staggered Struve a few times himself before the Dutchman landed a devastating uppercut that essentially put the Cleveland State out on his feet.
