After losing a unanimous decision to Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold earlier this month, Tim Kennedy ended much speculation as to what his next move would be by calling out grappling ace Roger Gracie on twitter last week. The former US Army sniper said “ I heard Scott Coker say Roger Gracie was the best grappler in Strikeforce. I would love to prove that is not the case.”
A week to the day, the Brazilian has responded to the challenge. The Grappling ace, who took a lopsided decision victory over former title challenger Keith Jardine at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Kennedy, responded to the challenge, telling Tatame:
He can say whatever he wants. He can be good on the ground, but technically I’m much better. In a Jiu-Jitsu match, he probably wouldn’t have a chance against me. In a MMA fight, we can’t say. In my last fight, Jardine was far away from being a black belt and I couldn’t submit him.
I guess it can be an interesting fight. Anyone in Strikeforce would do an interesting fight with me.
While the bout has yet to made official, the current state of the promotion indicates that the middleweight bout is likely go for a future Strikeforce event. A win for the Gracie could secure a title shot for the BJJ legend.
