Dana White addresses Chris Weidman’s decision to call out Anderson Silva

Last night, UFC middleweight Chris Weidman put the middleweight division on notice by maintaining his unbeaten record with a scintillating stoppage of Mark Munoz. The finish came in the second round of their headlining match-up at UFC on Fuel 4 when Weidman landed a solid elbow-strike to Munoz’s grill, then followed up with some vicious ground-and-pound to earn the TKO win.

After the bout Weidman called out divisional champion Anderson Silva in hopes of securing a shot at the legendary Brazilian’s belt. UFC President Dana White was, of course, in attendance at the event and listening, later speaking about Weidman’s title-hopes during Fuel TV’s post-show coverage.

Weidman Was Out to Make a Statement Against Munoz

“Who knows who’s ready for a guy like Anderson? Everybody was saying before this fight that Mark Munoz had the style – that he could double-leg him, put him against the fence, and actually do incredible damage up against the cage like Munoz does. And tonight Weidman was the guy,” said White when asked if Weidman was too green for a go at Silva. “It not like this guy was moved slow. He fought Demian Maia and Munoz in his first five fights in the UFC.”

However, White stopped short of saying the 9-0 Weidman would be next in line for Silva.
