Eddie Alvarez may fight for Bellator one more time before free agency

Much has been said about Bellator lightweight Eddie Alvarez in recent months as a result of his pending free agency. Alvarez, who has been a Bellator staple for years en route to becoming one of MMA’s top 155ers, was believed by many to have fought under the organization’s banner for the final time this past April and would likely be joining Zuffa’s payroll before entering the cage again.

However, based on some recent comments from Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney it appears Alvarez could compete for the company at least once more before the year ends.

Alvarez Considers His Career as a “Marathon” Rather Than a “Sprint”

“We’re talking to him. We’ll see what happens,” explained Rebney in an interview with MMAWeekly. “We may cut a deal with Ed. We may not cut a deal with Ed. We’ve got about another five months left on our current relationship with Ed and another fight, so we may do another fight with Ed.”

Rebney also added that Alvarez had been “awesome” during his run as part of the Bellator team, showing no hard feelings exist between the two.

Alvarez holds an overall record of 23-3 including twenty finishes. His last outing came against submission savant Shinya Aoki who he disposed of in a little more than two minutes.
