Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin named UFC 148 Fight of the Night

Last night marked the final in-Octagon appearance for legendary light heavyweight Tito Ortiz, and, as he has so many times before in the past, the former “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” helped steal the show thanks to an entertaining effort against Forrest Griffin. The two stars went toe-to-toe for three rounds at UFC 148, rocking each other with a number of stiff shots but refusing to give in and quit.

While Griffin’s decision win can be debated, the consensus take on the tilt was one of enjoyment and as such the bout was named the card’s Fight of the Night. Each man won $75,000 as a result of the honor.

Griffin Upset With Performance Against Ortiz

Meanwhile, middleweight champion Anderson Silva was handed Knockout of the Night for his second round finish of Chael Sonnen. The end of Sonnen’s effort came after missing badly with a spinning backfist, then absorbing a huge knee to the sternum to set up the final few shots a couple of seconds later. Silva too won $75,000 for the distinction.

No Submission of the Night was handed out based on the lack of tap-outs at the event.
