There are changes coming to the Bellator Fighting Championships for the new year.
Bellator will not only have a new home on television as they make the move to Spike TV but they will also “implement a championship fight rematch clause” in 2013. On Monday, Bellator Chariman and CEO Bjorn Rebney posted the announcement on the promotion’s website in a letter to MMA fans.
Bellator’s founding philosophy is that they are an MMA organization “Where Title Shots Are Earned, Not Given”. Their eight-man tournaments provide the winner an opportunity to fight for a championship belt. This clearly defined road to a title shot is a welcome change in comparison to other organizations. Now according to Rebney, “When a fighter’s earned a shot at the world title by winning The Toughest Tournament in Sports and competes in a title fight that knocks fans like us back in our seats (win or lose) delivering an incredible fight, when a rematch is called for, we will deliver it.”
This is definitely a win for fight fans. The Bellator Season 7 tournaments will be wrapping up over the next few weeks so we can look forward to some exciting title fights (and rematches) next year.
