After watching the injury bug take a bite out of so many of this year’s fight cards, it seems apropos that the Octagon’s final 2012 show takes a hit. According to NewsDay.com, an undisclosed injury has forced Chris Weidman (Pictured) out of his UFC 155 scrap against Tim Boetsch.
Weidman’s teammate, Constantinos Philippou, will now battle Boetsh on New Year’s Eve weekend.
The UFC confirmed the report by retweeting NewsDay’s post.
Philippou was slated to face Nick Ring this past Saturday, but Ring had to withdraw from UFC 154 at the 11th hour after failing to receive medical clearance.
Philippou has been quietly making his way up the middleweight totem pole. The striker has won four straight scraps.
Boetsch, meanwhile, spoiled Hector Lombard’s heavily-hyped big league debut at UFC 149. The split decision victory marked “The Barbarian’s” eighth win in his past nine outings.
It is believed the 185-pounder affair will remain on the main card.
UFC 154 takes place December 29th inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here is the event’s revised roster:
Preliminary Card:
Phil DeFries vs. TBD
