The old lion Vitor Belfort came extremely close to pulling off a stunning first round armbar submission against champion Jon Jones at UFC 152. In the opening moments of the bout Jones would put Belfort on his back with a takedown. With Jones postured above Belfort quickly took advantage of the opportunity to lock on the armbar. Jones’ arm appeared to hyper-extended as he fought to defend the submission. Belfort states that he heard Jone’s arm pop and he made the mistake of relaxing his hold on the submission which may have provided the champion the opportunity to escape.
