Fans tuning in to last night’s episode of WWE Monday Night RAW got an unexpected (and unwanted) twist when legendary broadcaster/wrestler Jerry “The King” Lawler passed out at the announce booth and was stretchered backstage for medical treatment. The situation unfolded over the final hour of a RAW Lawler had wrestled on earlier in the evening with updates being issued by an understandably distraught Michael Cole.
Lawler was said to have received CPR before being transported to a Montreal hospital. Later reports gave promising news, saying the WWE Hall of Famer had stabilized and would be undergoing a CT Scan of his head/chest.
“My dear friend will fight. Please pray for him. We’re all hurting,” wrote longtime broadcast teammate Jim Ross on Twitter.
Despite the gut-wrenching news, the show rolled on though in a classy move WWE opted to refrain from commentary throughout the remainder of the episode as a show of respect for Lawler.
Fighters.com will update the story as it continues to unfold.
