At the age of 37 there’s no question Mike Thomas Brown’s best days in the cage are likely behind him. The UFC featherweight has accomplished quite a bit over career, compiling a 26-8 record including success against the likes of Yves Edwards, Mark Hominick, and Urijah Faber, as well as a run in WEC as champion. However, based on some recent health issues, it looks like Brown may have to hang up his gloves for reasons out of his control.
According to a statement from American Top Team, where he has trained for years, Brown recently had a second surgery on his neck to fuse vertebrae. If he recovers fully he will still be able to fight but clearly the procedure, in addition to some other physical problems he’s encountered over the past few years, has Brown thinking about his future.
A Closer Look at Brown’s Last Win
“It’s always great when you can hire from within your team. We feel fortunate to have someone of Mike’s credentials on board, to help build and grow our next generation of fighters,” wrote an ATT representative after explaining that the gym had brought Brown on as a full time assistant coach with the renowned training center’s professional team.
Brown, who is currently on a two-fight winning streak, has not commented on the matter.
