A title-fight featuring UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos and former divisional king Cain Velasquez has been linked to UFC 155 for months. Despite some flirtation with the notion of fighting currently suspended contender Alistair Overeem, Dos Santos has publicly expressed his desire to face Velasquez with the American Kickboxing Academy also making it known the feeling is mutual, meaning the match-up should be a done deal.
However, while both fighters are available and interested, it appears the UFC has yet to actually book the bout.
“Not officially, but we’re looking to fight that day,” responded Velasquez in an interview with Inside MMA when asked about duking it out in December with Dos Santos. “Right now, I’m preparing for the rematch to happen. If the UFC tells me something different, then a I gotta prepare for something else, but right now I think it’s a for sure thing that I’m going to be fighting Dos Santos on December 29.”
Dos Santos Sees Velasquez as a Bigger Challenge than Overeem
Velasquez will be looking to redeem himself if/when he meets with Dos Santos in the Octagon. The two fought last November where “Cigano” knocked Velasquez out in the opening round of action to claim the UFC title.
