Shane Carwin suffers knee injury but fight with Roy Nelson not in jeopardy

An apologetic Tweet from UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin revealing a recent knee injury had MMA fans declaring the injury bug is alive and well after watching a number of main events fall apart in recent weeks due to health-related woes. However, Five Ounces of Pain has been able to confirm his scheduled scrap with Roy Nelson is not at risk based on the situation.

“The injury isn’t bad. Shane just can’t travel because of swelling, and possible clots,” said manager Jason Genet. “He will be fine for the fight with Nelson.”

Carwin injured his knee in training and had already committed to doing some PR for The Ultimate Fighter 16 in England while Nottingham hosts UFC on Fuel TV: Struve vs. Miocic.

A former interim champion, Carwin (12-2) is expected to face Nelson (17–7) at the The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale on December 15. Although it’s early in the season, it is already abundantly clear that both fighters-turned-coaches do not see eye to eye with Nelson preaching the ‘just do enough to win’ mantra and Carwin encouraging his team to embrace the moment and make the best of it. The two have also taken aim at one another in countless media appearances and by way of online means with Carwin even going so far as to say he hates Nelson on a personal level.
