One of this fall’s most intriguing lineups took a major hit this week when news surfaced stating former Strikeforce bantamweight champ Sarah Kaufman had withdrawn from an upcoming bout with Kaitlin Young at Invicta FC 3 due to injury. The nature of Kaufman’s affliction was not revealed, though it is at least bad enough to prevent her from being ready for the October 6 outing.
Kaufman confirmed the news on her Twitter page, apologizing to fans and the organization for having to pull out. The 26-year old, who celebrates her birthday this Thursday, was understandably heartbroken about the development after hoping to fight again as quickly as possible to erase the bitter taste of defeat still resonating on her palate.
The 15-2 Kaufman fought last month, suffering a submission loss at the hands of title-holder Ronda Rousey in the opening minute of their match-up. The stumble snapped a three-fight winning streak for Kaufman.
Kaufman Wants to Be Known for Fighting, Nothing More
As a result of her removal from the fight, Kaufman has been replaced by Leslie Smith. Young and Smith met in the Invicta FC ring earlier this year where they went toe-to-toe and exited the event with a Majority Draw in tow.
