UFC welterweight Dan Hardy is currently focused on a fight this weekend with Amir Sadollah at UFC on Fuel 5. However, if “The Outlaw” escapes the event with a second straight win in tow it sounds like he’ll go back to lobbying for a bout against divisional great Matt Hughes.
Hughes hasn’t fought in a year, staying semi-retired from the sport though not officially calling it quits. During that time the avid hunter has gone on a number of trips including a recent excursion to Africa. Hardy, whose love of animals is as strong as Hughes’ desire to shoot them, has been criticial of the former champion’s hobby a number of times and took time to blast him once again when asked about the matter.
“I don’t really understand how you fly out to Africa, look out on the savannah, look at those animals and go ‘You know, I want to kill that.’ I can’t make sense of that in my head,” said Hardy in an interview with Fighters Only. “For someone who’s a self-proclaimed good-guy Christian, it just doesn’t calculate. He’s getting his morals mixed up somewhere. He really needs to have a look at himself and question what he’s doing.”
“Hunting for food, that’s one thing, but going out and shooting…I mean on that blog he was out there for what, two weeks? And he shot fifty animals. I don’t think he’s gonna eat that, let’s be honest,” Hardy concluded, adding a simple statement speaking volumes about his feelings on Hughes. “He’s not my kind of person.”
Hardy Out to Win Impressively in Scrap with Sadollah
The 24-10 Hardy is a former title-contender who bounced back from a rough stretch of defeats to score a knockout over Duane Ludwig earlier this year. Contrarily, Hughes has come up short in both of his last bouts, suffering knockouts to BJ Penn and Josh Koscheck respectively.
