As the old adage goes, “Anything can happen in a fight.” No truer words have ever been spoken when you examine what took place Saturday at “UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort.”
Of the lineup’s 12 scraps, eight bouts resulted in upsets. That’s an astonishing 67% clip.
Marcus Brimage (Pictured), Kyle Noke, Mitch Gagnon, Sean Pierson, TJ Grant, Vinny Magalhaes, Cub Swanson, and Demetrious Johnson each served up upset specials last night in Canada.
Brimage was the card’s biggest longshot to come though. Jimy Hettes was a whopping 4.5-to-1 odds-on favorite to dispose of the former “The Ultimate Fighter 14″ contestant.
The most significant underdog to reign supreme was Johnson. Despite entering the flyweight finals against Joseph Benavidez as more than a 2-to-1 dark horse, “Mighty Mouse” managed to find a way to become the Octagon’s inaugural 125-pound king.
Unfortunately for Vitor Belfort, the event’s largest underdog at 5-to-1, he wasn’t able to dethrone Jon Jones in the night’s featured attraction. Although, “The Phenom” came awfully close to making longshot lovers quite happy – and wealthy – when he slapped on that armbar in the 1stRound.
UFC 152 took place inside Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
