Bellator 79 was exactly what the promotion needed in terms of ratings. They scored a season high 220,000 viewers on MTV2 for the event but the momentum didn’t continue with Bellator 80 in Hollywood, Florida. In fact, the pendulum swung in the opposite direction with the second lowest ratings of their seventh season. Although the ratings don’t really matter, as it has already been announced that Bellator will be on SpikeTV in January, you can bet CEO Bjorn Rebney prefers a much higher number.
MMAJunkie confirmed the ratings:
The Nov. 9 event averaged 148,000 viewers on MTV2. That’s well below the previous season average of 172,200 viewers.
Bellator 80 took place at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The main card, which followed Spike.com prelims, featured former champ Joe Warren’s unanimous-decision win over Owen Evinger in the headliner.
