Chicago will get a chance to watch one of their own in action on January 26 when the UFC stops in the Windy City next year, as frenetic fan-favorite Clay Guida has been scheduled to scrap with Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FOX 6. The fight will mark Guida’s debut at 145 pounds after a successful run in the Octagon as a lightweight.
The still-developing card is set to feature a flyweight title-fight between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson in the main event. Other bouts expected to take place include Quinton Jackson-Glover Teixeira and Anthony Pettis-Donald Cerrone.
UFC officials have confirmed the match-up between Guida/Hioki.
“The Carpenter” decided to drop down to featherweight after losing his last two tilts, falling by decision to Gray Maynard and Benson Henderson. Despite the slide, Guida is still considered to be one of the UFC’s toughest draws and owns past wins over the likes of Pettis, Takanori Gomi, and Nate Diaz.
Hioki entered the UFC in 2011 with the reputation of a top 145er, living up to expectations with victories in his first two fights. However, rather than seek a title-shot, Hioki opted for more experience and ended up being outpointed by Ricardo Lamas this past June. He holds an overall record of 26-5-2 with sixteen stoppages to his credit including twelve submissions.
