A lot of people thought I was gay, Anderson Silva admits.
It has been observed numerous times over the years that the middleweight champion has an unusually high-pitched voice for such an alpha male and Silva says that when he was a teenager, more than one person thought he was gay.
That probably wasnt helped by the fact that until around the age of 14 he thought it was normal to allow his sister to dress him up with girls clothes and play with dolls.
We would wear a dress, put on her shoes, the UFC champion tells Tatame with admirable frankness. And because I am very vain about my appearance, and have a high voice, a lot of people were sure I was gay.
The comments were made in an interview which forms the centrepiece of Septembers issue of the long-running Brazilian magazine. Anderson, who married young, has been with his wife for 15 years and has five children - he didnt remark on whether he ever tries on his wifes clothes these days.
If he did, he wouldnt be in bad company. Soccer superstar David Beckham has never quite lived down the admission that he had worn items of his wifes underwear, nor did her decision to dress him in a sarong (unisex skirt-like wrap from more tropical climes) do him any favours with the UKs football fan base.
