When the bout between Chad Dawson and Andre Ward was announced the pairing was pegged as a battle between two of boxing’s best with each in their prime and carrying the tag of champion. However, what unfolded last night Oakland turned out to be a different story altogether, as the unbeaten Ward outclassed Dawson from start to finish.
Ward knocked Dawson down three times including twice in the first four rounds and a fight-ending sequence in the tenth. The victory improved his overall record to 26-0 and was his fourteenth TKO.
“I tell people you can still entertain without getting a knockout,” stated a satisfied Ward after the fight in a conversation with Yahoo Sports. “You can still be entertaining to people without knocking somebody out. But, a knockout is always great and that’s the last piece of the puzzle in my game that I’m working on.”
“It’s not something you can teach. It’s all instincts. When you buzz a guy, you hurt a guy, you wobble a guy, you drop a guy, you just know how to get him out there. That’s the last piece of the puzzle and this was the first step toward that tonight,” he concluded.
