Chris Weidman calls out winner of Michael Bisping-Brian Stann rather than Alan Belcher

It looks like Chris Weidman is finally coming to the realization his desire to fight UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva will not be enough for the match-up to materialize, as “The Spider” is simply interested in facing stars at this point in his career rather than up-and-coming talent who haven’t fully established themselves as a mainstream presence. However, while Weidman apparently won’t be mixing it up with Silva anytime soon, he has at least decided to follow the Brazilian’s lead by calling out a big name rather than a deserving opponent.

Weidman was quoted on this week’s episode of UFC Tonight as saying he wanted to fight the winner of a bout between Michael Bisping-Brian Stann rather than Alan Belcher. Bisping and Stann, who face off on September 22, each have a loss to Chael Sonnen in the not-too-distant past while Belcher has won his last four fights including finishes of Patrick Cote and Rousimar Palhares.

Weidman Willing to Fight Silva in Brazil, Feels He Can Finish Him

Belcher mentioned Weidman’s name in a recent message to fans as who he hoped to fight, targeting November for a potential pairing between the two. Unfortunately for him according to the report, Weidman doesn’t feel a victory over Belcher would do much for his stock and doesn’t view “The Talent” as being any better than other opponents he’s beaten such as Demian Maia and most recently Mark Munoz.
