December is shaping up to be a rather busy month for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Theres the big year-end event UFC 155 on Dec. 29 and the final UFC on Fox of the year on Dec. 8, but now there is also the UFCs return to Oz.
UFC president Dana White on Friday announced via Twitter that UFC on FX 6 would feature Hector Lombard vs. Rousimar Palhares in the promotions return to Australia on Friday, Dec. 14.
Aussie fight fans in Brisbane and Melbourne have long been harping for the UFC to come to their locals, but MMAWeekly.com sources indicated that just exactly where in Australia UFC on FX 6 would take place hasnt been determined, yet. The promotion has already held three events in Sydney, but White offered up no further details on Twitter whether or not Sydney would once again be the landing point.
Lombard (31-3-1) was on a 25-fight unbeaten streak, but fell flat in his Octagon debut at UFC 149 over the summer. A big portion of him falling flat was obviously due to the man standing across from him, Tim Boetsch, but Lombard still failed to live up to the lofty expectations set for the former Bellator middleweight champion.
Hell look to redeem himself, fighting on his home turf in Australia, where the Cuban-born Aussie has fought the majority of his career.
Palhares (14-4) is no easy task for Lombards path to redemption.
Although hes coming off of a loss to Alan Belcher at UFC on Fox 3 in May, Palhares is one of the more feared fighters in the division, primarily because of his prowess at leg locks.
Hes particularly fond of the heel hook, which is a devastating finishing move, and has used it to finish the majority of his opponents.
