Benson Henderson feels sense of redemption with top spot at UFC on FOX 5

Shortly after the UFC and FOX announced their partnership the companies treated fans to a card featuring Cain Velasquez defending his heavyweight title against Junior dos Santos on the network. However, it was the only bout to make the broadcast, relegating a tremendous tilt between lightweights Benson Henderson-Clay Guida to smaller outlets for airing.

On December 8 the Octagon will return to FOX for the fifth time. Ironically, Henderson happens to be headlining the show, defending his divisional strap against Nate Diaz. Asked to reflect on the road traveled from the first FOX lineup to the coming card, “Bendo” admitted his main event status was a sweet twist after the disappointment of last year’s situation.

“It’s nice cause there was so much hype about the first UFC card on FOX – first UFC card on main TV, on free TV. There was so much hype around that, there was so much talk about it, and then when it came around I wasn’t on FOX. Clay and I weren’t aired on FOX, so I was sad. I won’t lie, I was very sad about that,” revealed Henderson in an interview with MMAWeekly.

Henderson Sees Future Where He Fights at Welterweight

With a chance to entertain millions of fans by retaining his title against a competitor like Diaz, Henderson has since seen some weight lifted off of his shoulders.

“It was nice kind of being redeemed. Now, Nate and I are headlining the FOX card,” explained the 28-year old before joking, “The only thing that could make it better would be having heavyweights be the co-main event. That would be a freaking feather in my cap. I would love that.”
